HYANNIS,
MA -- It mattered little that Cotuit remained in third place in
the Western Division yesterday, as Cape League managers opted to
place five Kettleers on the 2005 Western Division All-Star team,
headed to play this Saturday, July 30, in the Cape Cod Baseball
League All-Star Game versus their Eastern Division counterparts.
Bryan Harris, a recent transfer from LSU to Cal
State Fullerton, Brad Boyer (Arizona), Jason Donald (Arizona), Sean
Gaston (Notre Dame) and Purdue's Chris Toneguzzi were all selected
to the Western Division squad. Harris, Boyer, Donald and Gaston
were all named to the starting lineup. For Harris, this is his second
selection to the Cape League's starting all-star lineup. He is currently
second in the league in RBI with 25.
Harris was selected as the starting first baseman,
while Donald and Boyer were tabbed as the top middle infield combo
-- with Donald at shortstop and Boyer at second base. All three
players -- Harris, Donald and Boyer -- are return players for the
Kettleers and played for Field Manager Mike Roberts in 2004.
Boyer, who arrived to Cotuit a little later than
other players this summer and was not originally in Coach Roberts'
game plan for the 2005 campaign, has been tearing it up ever since
he arrived, collecting 14 RBI and batting .278 through Monday. The
Arizona standout and return Kettleer was selected by the Seattle
Mariners in the 14th round (413th selection overall) in the June
Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
For Harris, this all-star selection marks his
second straight. Last season he ended as just one of seven Cape
Leaguers to finish batting over the .300 mark with a .307 average.
