Miss. - Sophomore
southpaw Brae Wright struck out a career-high 11 in pitching his
first career, complete-game shutout as No. 10 Ole Miss blanked Nicholls
State 4-0 Friday night in the first game of a three-game weekend
series, in front of 1,588 at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
With the win, the Rebels improved to 12-1 on
the season to match 1955 team for the best 13-game start in school
history. The Colonels dropped to 8-7.
Wright (4-0) limited the Colonels to seven hits
and walked none in going the distance.
Ole Miss took a 1-0 lead in the first on sophomore

Head . The Rebels added another run in the second when
freshman LF Alex Presley
doubled to start the inning, stole third and scored on a throwing
error by catcher David Tano.
Ole Miss added two insurance runs in the eighth
on RBI singles by Presley and Chris Coghlan.
Senior RHP Mike Prejean (1-3) also went the distance
for Nicholls State in suffering the loss. He was charged with four
runs on 10 hits and two walks, and struck out nine.

OXFORD,
Miss. - Sophomore LHP Brae Wright turned in his second straight
complete game and No. 11 (Baseball America) Ole Miss scored two
runs in the seventh to defeat No. 22 Vanderbilt 3-1 and sweep the
weekend's three-game Southeastern Conference, in front of 3,612
at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
The win was the Rebels' sixth straight as they moved to 18-1 on
the year and 3-0 in the SEC. Vanderbilt fell to 14-5 and 0-3 in
the SEC.
Wright (5-0) scattered seven hits and walked one, while striking
out eight in winning his fifth straight start.
Sophomore left-hander Ryan Mullins (2-1) limited the Rebels to just
five hits and walked one, but was hurt by two Commodore errors in
the seventh inning that led to two unearned runs. He also struck
out eight.
"These were just three terrific baseball games this weekend," said
Ole Miss Head Coach Mike Bianco. "All three games could have gone
either way and we're very happy that we're able to come out on top.
"Brae Wright was just sensational on the mound this afternoon, and
we were able to make the plays that turned out to be difference."
