| Harris,
Strickland and Emrick Named 2004 Western Division All-Stars
LSU
hard-hitting first baseman Bryan Harris, Florida Southern's scrappy
switch hitter Geoff Strickland and University of Illinois-Carbondale
jack-of-all-trades Nathan Emrick were all named to the 2004 Cape
Cod Baseball League Western Division All-Star team Sunday (July
18) and are set to play at the 43rd Annual Cape Cod Baseball League
All-Star Game at Orleans' Eldredge Park, Saturday, July 24, at 6
p.m.
Harris,
who has proven to consistently be one of the top sluggers in the
CCBL this season, was at .316 with three home runs and 16 RBI through
Sunday (July 18). Strickland, hitting a respectable .253 with three
triples through July 18, was named along with Harris to the Western
Division starting all-star team. He garnered designated hitter honors
while Harris will start at first base for the West.
Emrick, who came on board with the Kettleers
as an infield utility man, took over the role of catcher when Brett
Hayes optd to play for Team USA and Ben Crabtree signed a permanent
contract to play for the Y-D Red Sox earlier in the season. He was
batting .235 through July 18.
Eldredge
Park is this year's site of the annual Cape Cod Baseball League
All-Star Game, each year boasting anywhere from 4,000 to 10,000
fans. Anywhere from 50-80 Major League Baseball scouts and top professional
baseball personnel attend the CCBL All-Star Game.
Once the regular season is over, an All-League
all-star team is named.
