2005 (Freshman Season)
Started in 40 of the 54 games he played as a freshman ... made 33
starts in right field, four in left and three in center ... hit
.307 overall with 41 hits, including seven for extra bases ... had
six doubles and drove in 18 runs ... stole 13 of 16 bases ... owned
a .991 fielding percentage with four outfield assists and one error
in 111 chances ... team was 24-6 when he started as the lead-off
batter ... upped his average to .320 in Big Ten games with 24 hits
and four doubles ... pinch hit for Mike Rabin in his first collegiate
game against Middle Tennessee (2/25) ... had his first collegiate
hit against Georgia (3/4) in a pinch-hit role and then added a pair
of hits in a start in center field against No. 4 North Carolina
(3/5), a game the Buckeyes won, 2-1 ... also started against Arizona
State (3/6), a team that advanced to the College World Series ...
batted .364 in three games in Jacksonville (3/11-12), delivering
his first two RBI with four hits, including one double ... was 2-for-2
at North Florida (3/11) with his first career extra-base hit, a
double to right ... added one hit vs. Bradley (3/12) and one against
Rider (3/12) ... hit .296 with eight hits and two RBI during the
eight-game spring break trip (3/18-26) ... went 2-for-4 and scored
twice in the first game against Dartmouth (3/25) ... knocked in
two runs against Bucknell (3/19) ... walked three times vs. Malone
(4/13), including twice in the fourth inning, and scored twice ...
drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat
Michigan State 8-7 in the series finale (4/17) ... the game-winning
single was his only hit of the game and only his third in the series
... started all four games of the Indiana series (4/29-5/1) in right
field and had five hits, the most of any player against the Hoosiers
... delivered a two-run single in the third inning against Cleveland
State (5/4) ... batted .429 (9-for-21) at Penn State (5/7-9) with
a double and two RBI, while scoring twice ... nine hits equaled
the most on the team ... had four hits at Northwestern (5/13-15)
... delivered the winning run in a 3-2 win over Miami, Ohio (5/17)
with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning ... followed
with three hits, including a double, vs. Minnesota (5/20-22) ...
named to the Big Ten All-Tournament team after batting .360 (9-for-25)
in the Big Ten tournament ... led team in going 3-for-4 in the first
championship game and then added two hits in the title game ...
drove in the first of two runs in the 2-1 victory over Virginia
in the NCAA Corvallis Regional ... finished season with 14 multiple-hit
games, including 10 two-hit games and four three-hit games and had
a season-long hit streak of eight games ... tied for sixth in the
Big Ten with eight sacrifice bunts and was ninth with a .991 fielding
percentage ... an OSU Scholar-Athlete ... played summer of 2005
with the Delaware Cows of the Great Lakes League.
Whitehall-Yearling High School
All-league and all-district performer as a sophomore and a junior,
but did not play his senior year because of a broken wrist ... three-year
starter and four-year letterwinner for coach Dave Hutchison and
the Rams ... career .440 hitter with 41 stolen bases and nine home
runs ... was all-state in football and captain of a team that won
the league championship and finished 10-2 ... earned two letters
in basketball and was a Division I regional qualifier in the 100-
and 200-meter dashes in track ... was a member of the National Honor
Society and was editor of his high school yearbook ... active in
student council and wrote for the newspaper ... played summer of
