As the season commences, the need for continued support from our many fans and community sponsors becomes more and more urgent. The Cotuit Kettleers remain the ONLY Cape League team to fully maintain its playing field and park without use of public funds. Recently the Cotuit Athletic Association invested in a new infield, first base bleachers, and a new scoreboard with some help from the Yawkey Foundation. As funds allow, expansion of parking, additional seating, construction of new rest rooms will begin. Expenses for team members' travel, recruiting, uniforms, and equipment must be met each season without fail, as well as our coaches' salaries and housing costs. Our efforts and goals, however, reach beyond the realm of Lowell Park and the Kettleers. In addition to awarding annual $500 college scholarships to area residents, the Association continues to provide Baseball Clinics for over 600 youngsters each summer, sponsors teams in the Barnstable Youth Baseball Farm League, Little League, and a girls' softball team, and provides camp scholarships through Big Sisters and Brothers every summer. |
