Baseball Career,
Scholastic, and Collegiate Highlights: A very good
two-way player who was quite an impact player for the
Buckeyes as a Freshman. Made 15 appearances on the
mound (as the Buckeyes’ No. 4 pitcher) and played
another 40 games at the plate or on defense. J.B made
a total of 44 starts (15 at first base, 13 in left
field, 13 on the mound, two in right and one as the
team’s DH), He finished 8-5 with 2.51 ERA and owned
the team’s best ERA. He was second with eight
victories recording 57 strikeouts in 79.0 innings and
held opponents to a .253 batting average. He was 4-3
with a 2.58 ERA in conference action and at the plate,
he batted a respectable .325 with 40 hits, 19 RBI and
21 runs score. He batted .319 in Big Ten play and
became the ninth Buckeye to be named Big Ten Freshman
of the Year. Was also selected a Louisville Slugger
Freshman All-American and a second team All-Big Ten
honoree.
