freshman All-America honors (rivals.com) after leading the Aggie
staff in strikeouts in 2008 ... tabbed an honorable mention All-Big
12 pick by the league's coaches ... was the only pitcher on the
staff to start on each weekend ... all 16 appearances on the year
were starts ... the Aggies were 10-6 in those games ... went 6-2
with a 4.18 ERA, allowing 76 hits in 90 innings of work ... struck
out 81 and held opponents to a .227 average ... led the team in
starts (16) and strikeouts (81), and ranked second in victories
(six) and innings pitched (90.1) ... allowed two runs or less in
seven outings ... went six or more innings in eight starts ... did
not walk more than three batters in a start all year ... was 2-0
with a 2.38 ERA in four starts against ranked opponents ... fanned a
season-high nine batters in his first career start (Feb. 23 vs
Northern Colorado) ... was 4-2 with a 4.33 ERA in Big 12 play,
making nine starts ... picked up the first win of his career in his
Big 12 debut against Texas Tech (March 15) ... allowed four hits and
one earned run in 5 innings of work ... pitched a season-high 7
innings in a one-run loss at Oklahoma State (March 22) ... matched
that three weeks later in a win over Oklahoma (April 12) ... allowed
the Sooners six hits and two runs while matching another season-best
with nine punch-outs ... did not allow a run in his next two
outings, picking up wins at Baylor (April 19) and against No. 4
Missouri (April 26) ... combined to give up four hits and strike out
10 in 11 shutout innings of work in the two games ... again stymied
the Tigers in the Big 12 Tournament (May 24), allowing Mizzou just
four hits in 6 shutout innings ... picked up the first NCAA win of
his career against Houston (May 31) at Olsen Field, fanning five and
giving up three earned runs in six innings of action ... retired 10
of the final 11 batters he faced ... went 5-1 with a 3.23 ERA in his
final nine starts ... named a Verizon/Texas A&M Scholar-Athlete.
