games, the most in the Southern Conference and a new Davidson
single-season record, and pitched 44.1 innings ... finished with a
team-best 4.47 ERA ... overall record of 3-2 ... struck out 29 and
walked 11 ... held opposing hitters to .294, one of three Wildcat
pitchers below .300 ... earned only save of the season in first
outing, tossing season-high four innings and allowing just two runs
on three hits and striking out four against Army Feb. 21 ... did not
allow a run in 10 consecutive innings over five outings from April
19-26 ... earned first win at Samford in first game of a
double-header April 2, allowing just one hit in one inning of relief
... earned second win against UNC Greensboro April 24, pitching
three shutout innings and allowing just three hits while striking
out three ... came back the next day and earned third win, tossing 2
2/3 shutout innings of hitless relief with no walks and three
strikeouts ... named Southern Conference pitcher of the Week April
20-26 for his impressive series performance against UNC
Greensboro... received team's Most Valuable Pitcher Award ... named
Academic All-SoCon.
2008: Had 32 appearances, the third most in a season in
school history and his five saves are tied for the seventh most in a
season… walked just 13 batters in 37 innings while striking out
21… threw three scoreless innings to pick up his first career save
vs. Georgetown (2/23)… tossed a scoreless frame at Auburn (5/4)…
had a stretch of four appearances without giving up a run (4.2
innings) and logged two saves… earned his fifth save after
throwing 1.2 scoreless frames at UNC Greensboro (5/16).
Prep/ Personal: Named to All-Conference and
All-County teams at Middle Creek High School for coach Jeremy
Thompson… Posted an 8-2 record with a 1.25 ERA as a senior with 41
strikeouts and just 11 walks… school’s all-time career leader in
ERA and second all-time in wins ... team won conference championship
twice and appeared in the state quarterfinals during his career…
also lettered in varsity football and basketball becoming the first
Middle Creek athlete to letter in all three sports … National
Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, class vice president and SGA
vice president … recipient of IBM Thomas J. Watson Memorial
Scholarship ... played in Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League in
summer of 2008… led the league with seven saves, posted a 2.35 ERA
and pitched a scoreless inning in the All-Star game… played in the
Northwoods League for the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers in summer of
2009...led team with 27 appearances while posting a 2.11 ERA over
42.2 innings to go along with a 5-3 record and 3 saves ...member of
the Phi-Delta Theta fraternity ... vice president of Davidson's
Pre-Law Society... Sports Editor for the Davidsonian newspaper...
The son of Paul and Anne Frongello… has two younger brothers, Matt
and Robbie.
