2009:
Hit .273 with 49 runs, six doubles, one triple, three homers, 36
RBIs, and 16 stolen bases in 66 games (all starts at
shortstop)...one of only three Tigers to start every game; he became
the first Tiger freshman to start every game since Taylor Harbin and
Stan Widmann started all 66 games as freshmen in 2005...played all
but a handful of Clemson's 594.1 innings at shortstop...led the team
in walks (53) and had a .405 on-base percentage; the 53 walks were
tied for eighth-most in school history and most by a freshman in
Clemson history...was second in the ACC in walks and tied for eighth
in steals...tied for 11th in the nation in walks, including most
among freshmen, as no other freshman in the country had more than 40
walks or finished in the top 88 in that category...started at least
one game in seven different spots in the batting order (all but #3
and #4)...was 3-for-7 (.429) with a double, 14 RBIs, and four walks
with the bases loaded...had a team-high six bunt singles...had a
20-game errorless streak (70 chances) from March to April...hit a
single and had two steals in his first game as a Tiger against
Charlotte on Feb. 20...went 3-for-4 with two RBIs against Charlotte
on Feb. 21...hit his first career homer, a two-run shot, against
Charlotte on Feb. 22...went 1-for-2 with three runs, four walks, and
one steal against North Carolina-Asheville on Mar. 4...walked four
times and scored two runs against Michigan State on Mar. 10...went
1-for-2 with two runs, two RBIs, and a stolen base against South
Carolina-Upstate on Mar. 18...went 3-for-5 with a run and RBI in the
first game of a doubleheader against Elon on Mar. 24; he went
5-for-10 in the doubleheader...went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and
walk in the first game of a doubleheader at Boston College on Mar.
28...went 2-for-5 with two RBIs in the second game of a doubleheader
at Boston College on Mar. 28...hit a double and triple against Duke
on Apr. 3...hit a three-run double and walked twice against #4
Georgia Tech on Apr. 24...went 2-for-3 with an RBI, walk, and steal
against #4 Georgia Tech on Apr. 25; he went 3-for-7 (.429) with four
RBIs and five walks in the series...went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI,
and walk against Maryland on May 2...went 3-for-4 with a homer,
three RBIs, two runs, a walk, and steal at N.C. State on May
14...went 2-for-4 with two runs at #2 Arizona State in the Tempe
Super Regional on June 6...one of 22 members of the USA National
Team in the summer, where he hit .255 with 13 runs, eight RBIs, 16
walks, a .417 on-base percentage, and eight steals in 23 games.
BEFORE CLEMSON: Drafted in the 39th round (#1173 overall
pick) by the Texas Rangers in 2008...#17 prospect in Florida by
Perfect Game...first-team All-Central Florida as a junior...hit .420
with a .560 on-base percentage, six homers, and 31 RBIs as a
junior...team MVP as a junior...hit .382 with a .500 on-base
percentage, two homers, and 28 RBIs as a sophomore...lettered three
times in baseball at Olympia High School, where he was coached by
Randy O'Neal.
PERSONAL: Member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll in
2008-09...his father Steve played baseball at Northern
