Adam Smith  •  INF •  Texas A&M •  Sophomore

2009 (FRESHMAN): Appeared in 57 games, starting 54 (all at shortstop) ... got the starting nod at short in the final 34 games of the season ... ranked fourth on the team with nine home runs, most dingers by a true freshman at A&M in at least a decade ... hit nearly 80 points higher in last half of season ... prior to March 31, hit .217 with three home runs and 12 RBIs ... since March 31, hit .293 with six home runs and 13 RBIs ... went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and three runs scored vs No. 25 Texas State (May 12) ... had a game-tying, two-out triple in eighth inning of loss to Texas (May 8) ... called out at the plate trying for inside-the-park home run that would have given A&M 9-8 lead ... had a season-high three hits in win over UTSA (March 31) ... first true freshman to start season opener at short in at least last 25 years ... hit two home runs and drove in seven in opening-series sweep of Wright State ... had a triple, home run and four RBIs in first career game for the Aggies (Feb. 20 vs Wright State) ... finished the year with 13 multi-hit games and seven multi-RBI contests ... played summer ball for the Beatrice (Neb.) Bruins of the M.I.N.K. League.

AT KLEIN HIGH SCHOOL: Standout shortstop for his father, Barry Smith, at Klein High School (Klein, Texas) ... was named the team's Most Valuable Player as a senior (2008), hitting .472 with four home runs, 26 RBIs, 34 runs scored and nine stolen bases as the Bearkats advanced to the third round of the playoffs ... also named District 16-5A MVP, second-team all-state and second-team all-greater Houston ... played in the THSBCA Texas All-Star Game and the Houston All-Star Game ... along with fellow A&M classmates Randall Thorpe and Estevan Uriegas, was a member of Team Texas at the All-Star Senior Sunbelt Baseball series, held in June 2008 in Norman, Okla. ... helped lead the squad to the championship of the event and was the Home Run champion ... hit .382 as a junior (2007) with four home runs, 21 RBIs, 18 runs scored and eight stolen bases ... team advanced to the first round of the playoffs ... was an honorable mention all-district selection ... a two-sport standout, lettered two years at quarterback for the Klein football team, earning honorable mention all-district honors as a senior and leading the Bearkats to the playoffs in both his junior and senior campaigns ... played summer baseball for the Houston Heat and the Southeast Texas Sun Devils ... selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 28th round (858th overall pick) of the 2008 June draft.

PERSONAL: Adam Michael Smith is the son of Barry and Phyllis Smith of Spring ... born December 15, 1989 in Houston ... majoring in sports management ... both parents attended A&M, father, Barry (Class of '87), was a four-year letterwinner for the Aggie baseball team (1983-86) and coaches Tom Chandler and Mark Johnson ... was the team's captain as a senior after helping A&M to the Southwest Conference championship in 1986 ... mother, Phyllis, was a member of the Class of '86 ... grandfather, Jerry, was on the Aggie track team and threw the shot put and discus ... has an older brother, Andrew (A&M Class of 2011), and two younger brothers, Aaron and Alex ... enjoys playing video games, the guitar, and all sports in his spare time.
