As
the season commences, the need for continued support from our many
fans and community sponsors
becomes more and more urgent. The Cotuit Kettleers remain the ONLY
Cape League team to fully maintain its playing field and park without
use of public funds.
Recently
the Cotuit Athletic Association invested in a new well for the field
which was connected to the infield irrigation system, allowing field
maintenance to be independent of the Town water supply. In 1998,
we completed the irrigation system by extending it to the outfield.
As funds allow, expansion of parking and seating facilities will
be undertaken, as well as improvements to the rest rooms, handicapped
accesses, and construction of special reserved seating for major
league scouts. Expenses for team members' travel, recruiting, uniforms,
and equipment must be met each season without fail, as well as our
coaches' salaries and housing costs.
Our
efforts and goals, however, reach beyond the realm of Lowell Park
and the Kettleers. In addition to awarding annual $500 college scholarships
to area residents, the Association continues to provide Baseball
Clinics
for over 500 youngsters each summer, sponsors a team in the Barnstable
Youth Baseball Farm League and a girls' softball team, and provides
camp scholarships through Big Sisters and Brothers every summer
