Cotuit Kettleers Official Team Photographer in Crusade Versus Cancer

CAA & Heath Join Forces in 24 Hour Run Fundraiser

March 15, 2005

COTUIT, MA -- Inspired by one man's effort to help battle cancer, the Cotuit Kettleers announced this week that it will help sponsor Cotuit Athletic Association official photographer Rick Heath's plan to run for 24 hours straight to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
Heath has planned his 24-hour, 85-mile run for Friday, June 24, 2005, beginning at Elizabeth Lowell Park prior to the Cotuit Kettleers' home game versus Wareham at 5 p.m.
After taking a warm-up lap around the perimeter of Lowell Park - hopefully joined by as many fans who are willing - Heath will pace some 85 miles along local roads to Foxboro and by 5 p.m. on June 25, to West Bridgewater.
Heath, a longtime marathon and long-distance runner, hopes that his run will help raise donations to the American Cancer Society. The Cotuit Athletic Association last week voted to make the first donation to Heath's cause -- $200.
The American Cancer Society will be holding a charity function at the same time Heath will begin his run at Lowell Park on June 24, but Heath said that he is not sure yet whether his legs will be able to handle the addition of 22 miles to his planned route.
Heath has been running for the past 27 years and has logged over 30,000 miles. He has competed in 500 road races in the U.S., Canada and Europe. Typically, he will log in 40-60 miles per week. Last year, he managed an 18-hour run that took him 72 miles around a track to help raise money for the American Cancer Society.
He has been a member of the Cape Cod Athletic Club for the past 27 years and competes in 15-20 road races each year. He raised $2,000 last year for the American Cancer Society.
Kettleers' fans or anyone interested in making a donation to the American Cancer Society on behalf of Heath and his 24-hour Crusade Against Cancer, should send checks made payable to the American Cancer Society, c/o Ivan Partridge, Cotuit Kettleers, P.O. Box 411, Cotuit, MA 02635. All donations are tax-deductible.
