BOURNE, MA - In
common baseball parlance, the Kettleers "brought it" last
night at Coady Field, and brought it hard.
Thanks to a 15-hit barrage, Cotuit took a huge
step in shrinking the gap between the top three teams in the Western
Division standings by defeating the Bourne Braves, 7-0, on the road.
Notre Dame's Sean Gaston went 4-4 on the day,
followed by Alabama's Emeel Salem (2-5, 2 RBI), LSU's Bryan Harris
(2-4, 2 RBI), Stetson's Shane Jordan (2-4, 2 RBI), Arizona's Brad
Boyer (1-4, RBI), Tennessee's Julio Borbon (1-3) and LSU's Mike
Hollander (2-4).
Clemson freshman Dan Moskos tossed
5.1 innings of shutout ball (7 Ks) in a very strong outing to pick
up the win, while Young Harris's Charles Blackmon went 2.2 innings
in relief striking out two batters. Chris Toneguzzi (Purdue) came
in to close the game out.
The victory, oddly, left Cotuit in
third place in the Western Division standings, just one win shy
of second place Bourne's mark. Wareham defeated Orleans, 1-0, leaving
the Gatemen with sole bragging rights to first place in the Western
Division.
