COTUIT, MA - An
offensive explosion by Falmouth left Cotuit stunned on their home
field as the Commodores rolled to an easy, 13-0, victory over the
Kettleers.
The fifth inning was where it all fell apart
for the Kettleers as Falmouth was able to get four runs against
losing pitcher Barret Browning (Florida St., 2 Ks, 1 BB), who had
pitched very well up through the four previous innings, and one
run against reliever Derik Olvey (Notre Dame, 2 Ks, 0 BB). No reliever
for the Kettleers was able to stop the bleeding once it began in
the fifth, and the Commodores continued to pour it on until they
had thirteen runs in eight innings.
The offensive surge for the Commodores
began in the fifth when Mike Ambort (Lamar, 2 for 5 batting, 3 RBI)
singled to bring in Jon Still (Stetson, 3 for 4 batting) for the
first run of the game. Four more runs were added with four singles
and a hit batter before the Kettleers were even able to get the
first out of the inning. Cotuit was never able to get on track after
this inning, and things continued to get worse as the Falmouth offense
continued to pour it on while their own bats went completely silent
due to the solid pitching on the part of the Commodores.
As the Cotuit pitchers struggled
to get the Falmouth hitters out, Stephen Faris (Clemson, 5 Ks, 0
BBs) breezed through eight innings, picking up his second victory
of the season, never allowing Cotuit to gain any momentum. Faris
only allowed two hits during his entire eight innings of work, and
only in one inning did a Cotuit player reach second base. Without
facing any pressure from Cotuit, the Commodores were able to completely
sieze control of the game, which they did and ended up giving the
Kettleers their worse loss of the season.
Cotuit now falls to .500 on the season
with this extremely tough loss to swallow they will look to avenge
their poor outing tommorow versus league-leading Bourne.
