WAREHAM, MA - Coach
Mike Roberts exacted a modicum of revenge over his old CCBL club
the Wareham Gatemen Friday night at Clem Spillane Field, as his
Cotuit Kettleers gained big points in the Western Division standings
with a 9-0 blanking of their hosts. Roberts -- the Kettleers field
manager for the past two seasons, led Wareham to the regular-season
Western Division crown in 2000.
Missuri's Nathan Culp (1-1) picked up his first
Cape League win, striking out three batters in six solid innings
of work. He allowed just two hits and walked one. Cotuit relievers
Taylor Parker (Missouri) and Chris Toneguzzi (Purdue) combined to
shutout the Wareham Gatemen the rest of the way, allowing no wuns,
hits or walks, respectively.
Ivy Leaguer Devin Thomas (Brown) went 4-4 with
one RBI, while the rest of the Cotuit lineup had great success on
Thomas's heels.
Emeel Salem (Alabama) went 2-6 on the day with
one RBI, followed by Brad Boyer (Arizona/ 2-5, RBI), Bryan Harris
(LSU/2-6, RBI), Sean Gaston (Notre Dame/2-5, 2 RBI), Mike Hollander
(LSU/1-3) and Shane Jordan ( /1-5).
