WAREHAM,
MA — The
Cotuit Kettleers gained valuable ground over the second place Wareham
Gatemen last night at Clem SPillane Field, as Mike Cisco (South
Carolina) pitched seven strong innings, striking out eight and walking
just one batter for his first-ever Cape League victory.
Cisco allowed four runs with just threee of them
earned, then got help from Georgia Tech's Tim Ladd and closer Corey
Gearrin from Young Harris. Gearrin picked up the save in one inning
pitched.
The victory placed Cotuit four points ahead of
Wareham in the Western Division standings, giving the Kettleers
valuable breathing room heading near the season's halfway mark.
It was also Cotuit's third straight victory on the heels of two
shutout performances as the team heads back home to Lowell Park
today to face the last place Bourne Braves.
Mississippi State's Jeff Rea went 2-3 at the
plate to pace the Cotuit lineup. He scored three runs. Notre Dame
catcher Sean Gaston -- last year's Kettleers' MVP -- went 2-4, followed
by South Carolina's Justin Smoak who went 1-5 with an RBI and James
Madison slugger Kellen Kulbacki who drove in two runs.
