March 17 , 2006

For Immediate Release

BATON ROUGE -- LSU freshman infielder J.T. Wise was named Monday as the SEC Freshman of the Week by the league office.

Wise hit .563 (9-for-16) in the Tigers' four games last week with one double, one homer, two RBI and two runs. The Apopka, Fla., native also walked once and posted a .588 on-base percentage.

Wise's solo homer against No. 12 Tulane last Tuesday capped a three-run rally for the Tigers, helping to erase a 2-0 deficit in the sixth inning of a game LSU went on to win, 4-3.

Wise is hitting .377 (26-for-69) on the year with six doubles, one homer 14 RBI and eight runs.

Wise becomes the second LSU player this season to win SEC Freshman of the Week honors. Outfielder Jarred Bogany received the award on Feb. 13.

LSU (16-3) remained No. 8 in this week's Collegiate Baseball poll, and the Tigers moved up two spots to No. 11 in the Baseball America rankings. LSU fell one spot to No. 10 in this week's USA Today/ESPN Top 25.
