Summary

The Kettleers offense exploded for eight runs behind four driven in by Branden Berry (Cal State Northridge). The Cotuit first baseman hit his second home run in two days and the Kettleers topped the Falmouth Commodores, 8-2.

Austin Sexton received the win for 5 1/3 innings of one run ball.

Cotuit is now one game behind Falmouth for fourth place in the West and a game and a half behind Wareham for third place.

At the plate

Berry went 3-for-4 with four runs batted in, two runs scored and a walk. Brett Stephens (UCLA), who batted before Berry, went 4-for-5 with two RBI and two runs.

In the field

The Kettleers completed two inning-ending double plays on defense in the fourth and fifth innings. On the one in the fifth, Berry had to stretch and scoop the ball out of the dirt to complete the out.

Notable number

13 — Cotuit finished with 13 hits, tying its most hits in a game this season. The only other time the Kettleers were able to muster 13 hits was in an 11-1 blowout win over Yarmouth-Dennis on June 29.
