COTUIT— Cotuit (1-10) outhit Harwich (9-2) nine hits to seven and had no errors, but still lost to the Mariners 7-2 Wednesday night at Lowell Park in Cotuit. Once again, pitching was the major struggle in the loss, as Cotuit walked six and hit three by pitches.
Matt Ruppenthal (Vanderbilt) got the start for Cotuit Wednesday. The right hander dominated early, retiring the side in the first inning, but ran into trouble later in the game, walking three and sending another to first on a hit-by-pitch, allowing two runs. He was relieved in the fifth inning by left hander Aaron Maher (East Tennessee State), who allowed two runs on two hits in zero official innings pitched.
Ryan Rigby (Mississippi State) followed, tossing one full inning and allowing one run on one hit. David Gerics (Pomona-Pitzer) relieved Rigby, allowing two runs on two hits in his four inning relief appearance.
Offensively, Cotuit was lead by Jeren Kendall (Vanderbilt) and Hagen Owenby (East Tennessee State), who posted two hits apiece in the loss.
Tyler Wilson (Rhode Island) took the win for the Mariners; the Mariners have allowed 16 runs this season, Cotuit has allowed 74.
