COTUIT — The Kettleers (4-14) started their first winning streak of the season, beating the Wareham Gatemen, 7-6, at Lowell Park on Friday. Cotuit has now won two games in a row and could make it three with another game against Wareham on Saturday at Spillane Field.
Wareham hit a three-run homer to pull within one in the top of the ninth inning, but Alec Byrd (Georgia Southern) was able to finish off the game on the mound.
At the plate
Jack Klein (Stanford) blasted a fly ball into the trees beyond left field for a two-run homer and his second home run in as many games. Klein led Cotuit at the plate, going 4-for-5 with 3 runs batted in and a run.
Pat Dorrian (Lynn) also went yard in the fourth inning with a solo shot to right.
All seven of the Kettleers’ seven runs came in the fourth inning. The two teams combined for five home runs in the game.
In the field
Dorrian was a ball magnet at third base, making several plays. He made a jumping stop behind the third base bag, then planted to throw the batter out at first.
Keith Rogalla (Creighton) went three innings in his start and gave up just one run on the way to the win. Taylor Lehman (Penn State) entered in relief and gave up one run over the next 3 1/3 innings.
