BOURNE– As they led 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth, it seemed like the Kettleers would have a great chance to extend their two-game winning streak.
But a catcher’s obstruction call with two outs extended the inning, and Bourne took the lead off three consecutive hits en route to a 9-3 win over Cotuit on Monday night at Doran Park.
The obstruction allowed Cooper Johnson (Ole Miss) to reach safely, and Anthony Prato (UConn) singled to put two runners on for Chase Murray (Georgia Tech), who drove both in with a two-RBI double. In the ensuing at-bat, Jared Triolo (Houston) drove in Murray on an RBI single, giving Bourne the lead for good.
Both teams were retired in order in the first inning. Bourne would break through with the first run of the game as Gabe Holt (Texas Tech) laced an RBI single to left that scored Tyler Fitzgerald (Louisville) giving Bourne an early 1-0 lead.

Adam Oviedo (TCU) had two hits for the Kettleers as they fell to Bourne 9-3 on Monday at Doran Park.
The Kettleers would rally right back in the top half of the third for three runs of their own. After Adam Oviedo (TCU) reached on a fielder’s choice, Will Robertson (Creighton) drove him in to tie the game at one. Oviedo was the only Kettleer with a multi-hit game, and enjoyed his return to the lineup on Monday.
“I was ready to play so Coach gave me the green light and I was ready from there,” said Oviedo after the game. “I just stay locked in the game pitch by pitch.”
Two batters later, Thomas Dillard (Ole Miss) came up with a ground rule double of his own, scoring Robertson from second. Peyton Burdick (Wright State) continued the inning with a sac fly to center, scoring Michael Toglia (UCLA) and making it 3-1 Cotuit.
Bourne would add two insurance runs in the sixth, as Thad Phillips (UConn) hit an RBI single and Prato had an RBI double to put the game out of reach.
Cotuit will return to Lowell Park on Tuesday, hosting the Orleans Firebirds. A makeup game that was previously scheduled for both June 23rd and 28th, but was rained out on both occasions. The Kettleers are 2-0 against the Firebirds this season, with a 6-2 win back on June 16th, and a 5-4 win on June 20.
