Quick hitter: Cotuit falls to Falmouth

Posted by Katherine Ware
/ July 24, 2021

Score/result: Cotuit 4-9 Falmouth

Cotuit hitter/hit of the game: Carter Trice (Old Dominion) had his best game as a Kettleer tonight. Over four plate appearances, Trice didn’t commit an out. The right-handed hitter walked in his first two plate appearances. In the fourth inning, the Old Dominion product singled up the middle. Trice scored Cotuit’s fourth run of the night as he crossed the plate in the first inning. The infielder capped off his perfect night with an opposite field, two-run home run in the seventh. It was Trice’s first homer on the Cape.

Pitching moment of the game: Logan Maitland (UMass Dartmouth) entered the game in the fifth inning with two runners in scoring position and no outs. After an infield single, Maitland buckled down to keep the Kettleers within four runs. The right-handed pitcher struck out back-to-back hitters for the first two outs. He then induced a routine fly-out to center to end the inning and strand all three runners.

Cotuit: 4 runs / 10 hits / 2 errors

Falmouth: 9 runs / 11 hits / 0 errors

Up next: Cotuit at Wareham, Sunday @ 6:30 PM, Spillane Field
