Bourne, MA- Monday wasn’t Cotuit’s night, as the Bourne Braves dominated the Kettleers by a score of 13-1. The Braves never trailed in the contest, and the score was tied for just half an inning.
Moments that mattered:
Cotuit ties game in the third
Down 1-0 entering the third inning, the Cotuit offense was desperate for a spark to get back in the game. Nathan Martorella (California) got the inning started with a single to right and immediately stole second. Matt Suggs (UNC-Wilmington) then laid down a fantastic sacrifice bunt to move Martorella over to third, putting the game-tying run 90 feet from home plate. That would set the table to Cotuit newcomer William Gale (Seton Hall) to try and bring Martorella in. Gale got to a two strike count before chopping a grounder to the second-baseman, scoring Martorella and tying the game.
Bourne breaks it open with five run fourth
The game got out of hand for Cotuit in the bottom of the fourth, as Bourne poured in five runs on four hits. Cotuit didn’t help themselves in the inning either, walking two batters and committing two errors. The 7-1 lead that the Braves built in the inning proved to be all that they would need as they continued to pour it on for the remainder of the game.
Ritter, Grady continue impressive run
Ryan Ritter (Kentucky) and Jace Grady (Dallas Baptist) both extended some impressive hit streaks in tonight’s game. With his double in the sixth Ritter notched a hit in his 10th straight game, dating back to July 23rd against Hyannis. Grady’s hit streak moved to seven games on his single in the third. To go along with the seven game hit streak, Grady has notched multiple hits in four straight contests. The Dallas Baptist product has been one of the hottest hitters in the cape recently, bringing his average over .300.
Jace Grady (Dallas Baptist): 2-3
Ryan Ritter (Kentucky): 1-4, 2B *extends hit streak to 10 games
